Simple Fall Ideas to Refresh Your LWML Group

By Candy Kiel

Fall is the perfect time to gather again—with laughter, purpose, and Christ-centered encouragement. Hebrews 10:24–25 calls us to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” and to keep meeting together. What better theme for LWML than fellowship that refreshes, welcomes, and serves?

Our mission says it beautifully: “As Lutheran Women in Mission, we joyfully proclaim Christ, support missions, and equip women to honor God by serving others.” A simple fall event can do all three.

Start with connection

Set out conversation cards with quick prompts: What fall tradition do you love? What is your favorite autumn memory? Where have you seen God at work in a season of change? Small questions can spark big conversations.

Make it fun

Add energy with a tabletop escape game, tea-party mystery, or simple group puzzle. These low-pressure activities help guests relax and give long-term members a fresh way to connect. You might also set up a caramel apple bar with sliced apples, caramel sauce, and toppings such as crushed nuts and sprinkles. For more ideas, visit Fulfilled in Grace.

Create and Serve

Try a craft night at a local pottery, painting, or craft studio, then pair it with a short devotion. A new location can bring a fresh perspective. Or turn the gathering into service: assemble blessing bags, collect pantry items, prepare soup for shut-ins, or make holiday meal baskets.

Invite Someone New

A casual fall event is a natural doorway for neighbors, new church members, college students, young mothers, or women who have not attended in a while. Consider hosting a Try LWML for a Day autumn brunch or cozy evening gathering designed specifically to welcome newcomers, introduce Mite Boxes, and share current mission grant goals. Food, creativity, and service make the invitation easy. For more outreach inspiration, visit get.tithe.ly.

This fall, keep it simple and joyful: gather women, open the door to guests, and let fellowship become service. That is LWML at its best—proclaiming Christ, supporting missions, and honoring God together.
